Idea of the Manual

The Manual for Training Courses offers the first comprehensive description of the basis and practice of a training in curative education and social therapy that is trinal by nature, integrating theory, practice and art, and their mutual significance in training. It is designed to provide descriptions of the professional profile, the content of training courses, methods, mentoring of practical work, and further training for tutors and mentors in conjunction with examples of good practice. The emphasis is thus on having the same principles for training anywhere in the world, yet also leaving room for the individual needs and situations in specific places, including national and cultural requirements.

 

History of the Manual

Following a proposal that came from the Scandinavian region, the manual was developed over a five-year period in close collaboration between the representatives of training centres at their annual conferences and the Training Group of the Curative Education and Social Therapy Council. With the help of ECCE (European Cooperation for Anthroposophical Curative Education and Social Therapy) it was possible to obtain support from the Leonardo da Vinci Project of the European Union which put the project very much in the public eye.

 

Effects

Even at the development stage, many of the results of this work gave important impulses and found practical application in training centres and in developing new centres. We now have an instrument that can provide a basis for quality development in individual centres and for collaboration among centres. A compilation of the profiles of all centres provides a first basis for comparability at an international level. Above all, however, an international community of training centres has evolved that can develop further with regard to representation within the anthroposophical movement, before other professionals in this field and both national and international organs where the works of anthroposophical curative education and social therapy needs to be represented as a specific method.

 

Languages

The Manual is to be available in Dutch, English, French, German, Norwegian, Russian and Spanish.

English, French and German editions are currently available.

The dates when editions in other languages become available will be given here. 

Translation into further languages is possible. Permission for this must be obtained from the Curative Education and Social Therapy Council in the Medical Section at the Goetheanum.
